| Cheap Summit Headers and Mufflers on 87 c10 305 I've got a crack in my exhaust manifold.. so I was thinking of installing some cheap headers and dual (Flowmaster knockoff) muflers straight back with no cats Summit G9006 Headers, Full-Length, Steel, Painted, Thrush 17656 high flow muffler In all about $160 for headers and two mufflers delivered. I've got an 87 c10 305 TBI. Anybody install these? Good fit? easy install? Nice sound? durable? BTW, I can't find the cat in my stock install..where would it be and what does it look like? Thanks for any help or information. Picasa Web Albums - cyberpine - 1987 C10 Last edited by cyberpine; 10-19-2009 at 02:09 PM. |

No inspections here any more, but noise level can't be rediculously loud or I myself won't be able to stand it. More concerned about the fit and that it sound good. | |

| I haven't ever tried Summit headers, I stick to Hooker myself. I've used Hedman once before & they're not too bad either. Sound isn't going to come from the headers, although compared to manifolds they do make the exhaust note somewhat deeper IMO. Most of your sound comes from pipe size, exit direction & location, & most importantly muffler selection. I'd say if you don't want a loud exhaust note, stay away from chambered mufflers (Flowmasters) & glasspacks. Both are known for their aggressive sound. Look for a good Turbo style muffler for a deep tone without all of the annoying drone. Also, running the exhaust straight out the back & placing the mufflers near the end will help with interior noise. If you want to find the catalytic converter(s), it is/they are located between the exhaust manifolds & the muffler(s) underneath the truck. Not sure how many you should have on an 87, but they look fairly similar to a muffler. Pretty easy to tell if you still have them. |
