ok heres an update on this yet again.

Went out to my dads yesterday and changed out my valve cover gaskets cuz they were leaking. While i was waiting on my truck to cool of from the drive over there i went ahead and checked on a few things. I pulled the dash out and looked at all the contacts for the instrument cluster and all were clean. I could not find the aux battery relay but i will look again on Thursday. BTW here are some pics of her for your amusement.

This power / fuses for your dad's 2000.
Check the fifth one, left side for the 4wd fuse to Aux Batt.
May be easiest to follow the (+) from Aux thru link to relay
to find the relay. Suspect near batt to keep wires short.

I'm guessing you may find that relay within 1' of batt you disconnected.
Wouldn't be surprised at it being body-mounted below fuse box.

If you get camera happy again get some shots of that corner
with the fuse covers off. Easier for some folks to point at them
and say "that's where I saw the smoke coming from". Me too.

Nice looking truck by the way.
