'00 1-ton 4wd speedo and tach

ok guys my dad owns a 2000 Chevy 1-ton 4wd old body style. Just recently told me his speedometer and tach just one day stopped working. My brother looked at it and said all he found was the 4wd fuse blow so he replaced it. The truck is about an hour and a half away and im going over there on sunday to help him out. Any/all suggestions on what this might be are welcome

P.S. POST 400!

Yes it would, because the tranny is not comunicating with the vehicle to know what speed your are going.

tripower428 will become famous soon enough
I agree the VSS is the speedo issue, the trans shift issue is probably the transmission speed sensor (about $40). I just replaced both on my 94 1 ton 4x4.
I hope this helps.

You're just going to get random thoughts from me because my good brain
is in the shop and it's past warrantee period. And I do mean period.

I would not replace anything without knowing the codes and doing a visual.
That 4wd fuse blew for some other reason than it was cranky.
This is a 4wd implying other than city streets. VSS is exposed underneath.
Maybe you have damage wires or loosened connectors below.
4wd fuse also used for Aux Batt relay if he has one.
VSS is homerun to ecm and effects trans & speedo,
but there is a second sensor, right?, so ecm can confirm gear ratio good.
Don't assume one that CAN is one that DOES. Reminds me of me. LOL

I'm not saying it is or isn't anything for sure,
just pushing the troubleshooting idea (cheaper)

Otherwise only rich guys can fix trucks
when it becomes a parts-throwing contest.

well the funny thing is that his 4wd is on the floor not push button. So i dont see what ccould blow a fuse on a mechanical linkage.
