2001 GMC YUKON XL 5.3L Vortec

My SIL called me up yesterday said her "CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL" came on(fancy that didn't know they had that now) so she went and got oil brought it over and it was sure enough a quart low. I changed the oil about three months ago on it. What would be causing it to consume that much oil. She says "there are no oil spots on the floor" so. . . . what could it be? I am not to familar with the newer engines.

Close to if not 100,000. Conventional. Haven't checked that will check that hopefully this weekend.

OOh now that's a good question. She does a lot of driving. May I ask what your thinking as for the reason of that question?

the avg mileage nowadays is 15K a year versus the 12K it used to be back in the 90s. if she avgs 15, than she has driven 3750 miles since the last oil change. oil does real funny stuff once the viscosity has been lost. to add to that, if she drives it like she stole it, that will greatly diminish oil life as well. once it gets to a point, i wouldnt be surprised if all gone as well. this is why i keep the mileage checked in our vehicles. my wife has a lead foot at times and if in a hurry, you would think she was nascar. alot like me in a way.

Well she is a scorpio and it is a trait of ours to have a lead food so I can pretty much confirm she has a lead foot.
