i dont know what rear differential i have but id think that if it was in the trans i would hear it takeing off i only hear it comeing to a stop.

something leads me to think diff too. Have you pulled the cover to see what is going on in there.

I would think if it were rear end, then it would make noise on take off under strain, also while letting off. And I would think it would do it at all speeds and even if at coming to a stop, then I'd think it would do it at all speeds during deceleration, not just to a stop. And I sure could be wrong. I am not there to hear it so can't say for certain. So I am not going to say its the trans, but I will say, don't rule it out.

good point my brain is a little slow right now. to bad there isn't smellovison or audiovision. Oh wait if at all possible can you take a video of the sound?

Pull your drive shaft back off and put a big socket on the nut behind the yolk and torqe tight this will take the slack out of your pinion bearing 7 out of 10 times which is the # 1 clunk maker on chevy trucks

I was just thinking that my self and if you are getting a clunk from the pinion and that is the fix then it it time to tear down the rear end.
