Good, 'cause I was running out of things to call them. All I had left was "those dohickey things on the side of the block that pop out if you forget to use antifreeze and live in Duluth".

BTW, "supposedly" those plugs protect the block from damage if you don't have a proper ratio of antifreeze and the coolant freezes.

Up on the farm in Manitoba though we decided that what their real functions is is to tell you when the block is no darn good anymore because it cracked internally. If more than one pops out, congratulations on your new boat anchor.

lol. whats weird too is that when i pulled the old water pump off the gasket was completely melted? to the engine block. that or it was a special gasket. i was so paranoid about taking a sander thing to it that if I screw up one little bit my whole engine block would be toast. next time gasket remover will be bought.

I am use to calling them CORE plugs cause it never really freezes here in AZ.

Use a wood chisel or a special tool made for scraping gaskets(looks somewhat like a wood chisel). Gasket remover only works about so so, especially for removing thicker gaskets. The wood chisel or special tool works good on cast iron surfaces, be extra cautious if scraping aluminum surfaces.

I was thinking that you hadn't removed the old gasket correct buy a new gasket and go to town it's super easy to remove the pump just remove the top half of the fan shroud.
Good luck! GMC
