Difference between normal and HD

What are the differences between Chevy 1500 2500 3500 vs. the HD version? I figure they are all the same but just more heavy duty parts are used on them. Which then means are all of these HD parts interchangeable from truck to truck on both sides?

Well, sorta... You see, the truck frame is one of those heavy duty parts (bigger and stronger, with thicker steel) and while you could swap it...

Making a truck "heavy duty" isn't just a matter of bolting on a few heavy duty parts, it starts from the frame up.

Ahh ok. I was just wondering what makes them HD.. They have so many different trucks. I'm surprised they just don't make them all HD and try to consolidate

Not everyone wants, or needs, a heavy duty truck. Heavy duty trucks weigh more (which means higher registration costs in many places), use more fuel, have a stiffer ride, and cost more to repair. The guy who wants to haul a bed full of lightweight material doesn't need the same truck as the guy who wants to haul a bed full of firewood, but both might want the same style of truck, with similar options.
