| door switch 99 3500 p/u? I have a 99 chevy 3500 p/u, all lights are working fine but dome lite does not come on when door is opened. if i turn the dimmer switch all the way the dome light works, but when i turn to regular position and open door it doesnt come on. I have looked for the door switch on both doors but i can't find them, do they make the switch another way? also have cargo light with brake light in center. the brake light works but not cargo light. the owners manual says it should have a cargo light switch which it does not have? can somebody let me know about these issues?specially the door switch location? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

| Welcome to the forum and howdy from TEXAS. Look on the side of the dash board where the door first hits it I suggest that you change them both out because when going out they might turn on your dome light and it will discharge your battery. |

| Welcome to the forum glacierman2. Do you have the "Dome LIght Defeat" switch set on the dimmer panel ? Any chance of a picture of this dash, maybe it has been swapped. |

| I have a '99 GMC 3500, so I can help you out here... On the panel with the headlight switch and the dimmer wheel is a button. The button disables the dome light from coming on when the doors are opened. Make sure the button is in the out position and the lights will work fine. Also, be advised, the lights are on a delay system, so you won't see any immediate effect from the button. It takes a few seconds to "kick in". The cargo light switch is on the right side of the dash console, in the second position from the top. If yours when bad someone may have removed it and just stuck a blank in its place. Those blanks and switches just pop out without screws (pry 'em with a small screwdriver) and you should find the connector for the cargo light switch tucked back there. The switch itself can be bought from LMCtruk for about $30 IIRC.

| Oh, and the door switch is mounted on the side of the dash, towards the top. If you look at the door inner panel, up towards where the mirror mounts, you'll see what looks like a raised button or plug (about the size of a quarter) stuck in a hole. That's what the door switch presses against when the door is closed, so look directly opposite that on the dash and you'll see the switch. I can post photos later if you need them.

| Bad Switch Greeting all. I have a 1996 Chevy with the same door switches. I have found that the switches are bad, or are at least not making good contact. Those items mentioned will not work(at least on my truck) with these switches being bad. If I twist the switch, the lights all work. Anyone have a picture of these switches removed? I have the two tabs pushed in and can remove the door switch half way, but there some other tabs keeping it in and I'd like to see them if possible. Does anyone have instructions for the best way of removing the switches? Thanks |
