1991 S-10 whats up with the rear?

Looking at a 91 S-10 pickup has the 4.3V-6 auto and its 4wd the thing is he is saying that in 4wd the rear wheels seem to move faster then the front he said its like they are turning more they will spin up the dirt and the fronts don't ? not 100% sure what he means and i haven't seen the truck yet , i am looking for a beater for my father-inlaw to drive up and down are road and up to camp during hunting season etc. he said in 2wd its fine so ?? could it be the gearing ? he said it is going into 4wd so ? anybody have any clues ?

Sounds like a mismatch in the gearing between the rear diff and the transfer case. Could be that someone changed the rear at some point, or, and this is a good possibility, he has different size tires front and rear.

Yup, put it on jack stands in neutral and see how many turns of the driveshaft to make a full revolution on the rear wheels, then do the same in the front. Compare the numbers.
