| Yep, find you a 96 or newer to what is it a 99 Classic 350? I know its 96, not sure where it ends. Yes the Vortech is worth it. Well worth it, and the SFI injection and no dizzy. That 89 with a knock would have been expensive to rebuild anyway. Likely needed a crank replaced and a rod or 2. What caused this 97 Burb motor to seize? If lucky you may get by with a crank turn and be able to still use it, but the block, heads and everything else should be what you are looking for? Anyway you can get the ECM and harness out of the burb?

| Doh, I thought I saw you said the Burb was a 97. I am thinking if that CL motor were a Vortech and came with wiring and ECM, $450 would probably have been a steal, depending on how well it ran of course.

| idk if the motor was TBI or Vortec. but im slowly getting my dad use to the idea of a 350 in my truck. i keep tellin him its setup to take a 350 except exhuast and computer. and im going to rebuild it anyways. what should i look for in terms of being a good engine to rebuild and what should i stay away from? |

| I would stay away from a seized engine it might cost you more in the rebuilt than buying a new crate engine. How about putting a 350 engine and just using a carb in it? I know TBI is better but it might be cheaper if you find a 350 set up for a carb. |

| I don't worry so much about a seized motor as I do one with a rod knock, all depends on why it is seized and if the crank and rods are good for rebuild. Although, depending on how bad its seized, you can really tear them up just to get them apart. Maybe for Smile, crate is the way to go, but I hate crate engines. I am picky and no they are not built the way I would have done it. So yes, it costs me more to build my engine, but I know its good and what it will handle and what abuse I can throw at it. Kinda like buying a new computer. You buy HP, EMachine, or other propietary system, by the time you buy your OS and software, you spend much more building your own, but you get quality built to your own specs. Also, his truck is a 98, it would be nice for him to be able to stay politically correct and go with SFI 5.7 as what it would have been if it were 5.7 originally. JeemC is right though if you are looking for cheaper corner cutting way out. But honestly, if you do that, I can assure you, that 4.3 with its current set up, in that truck now the way it is, will have more power and torque than a carbed 5.7.

| so nono to a rebuilt 350 vortec? crate engines are so expensive. could i buy a set of heads for my truck and bore them and put larger pistons in my 4.3? instead of a whole new engine?. |
