| go to the bone yard and find yourself something to build. i got a complete 5.3L ls engine with harness and pcm for a little over $700. an old vortec V8 should be cheap to find that's in good condition.

| that actually sounds like a good deal. if i can get the comp engine and exhaust, and headers. does a 350 exhaust bolt up to the same exhaust hanger locations as a 4.3? |

| if you go headers, then most likely you will need custom exhaust. if you go shorties (not worth it) then you might be able to bolt right up. just be careful, put a youthful and energetic engine in front of a tired trans and that will be the next thing you replace.

| Quite honestly, SBC parts are usually cheaper. I have not priced a Vortech 350 kit though, but I'd almost be willing to bet, the kit for a 4.3 would cost you as much as the 5.7 kit and a 5.7 core motor. I think if it were me. I would be patient. Do my other stuff, like the body work, but keep funds available, and keep looking for a low to mid mileage 5.7 Vortech ready to drop in and run and when you find it, jump all over it and see if they ECM and harness come with it. There are deals out there, you just have to search for them and be ready the second they happen or someone else will beat you to them.

| If you peel out and burnout to much in your truck, then the trans is probably still holding up fairly decent. Do keep in mind, that tranny only has so many burnouts it can do. When it runs out, it runs out and you may be stranded.

| Do keep in mind, get caught by the wrong cop doing a burnout, and you won't have money for mods for a while. My bro has a 07 Mustang GT. Doing a little burnout in a parking lot at his work. Bam, cop heard him, seen it, and wrote him for wreckless driving. My bro said how can you do that, I am on private property. Cop says for DUI and wreckless driving, he can write tickets and impound the vehicle even on private property. Cop says he gave him a break, he did not impound the car. 2 or 3 points on the driving record and $400 something in fines. My bro has a CDL and is a truck driver, paying $700 to an attorney to fight the ticket so he can keep his job and CDL license. All this over a stupid little burnout at 11:30pm in an empty parking lot after work. Ridiculous.
