what year 5.7 will work in my truck?

Does anyone know what year of 350 wil work in my truck? I have a 98 w/t 1500 witha 4.3 vortec.

there is a 89 350 with a knock and blew smoke, i want to rebuild the 350 and swap the 4.3 out.

if you use the one from the 89 it will not be a vortec, unless you go buy some vortch heads to put on it. other than that i think it will work with a few modifications.

A vortec has different style heads. They will flow better than others within a similar price range. The only catch is they also require a different intake.

you need more than just the heads and intake if you want to keep the factory injection and ignition system. the older engines do not have a crank sensor, so you will need to change the crank and modify the timing cover.
