| Comedy Of Errors This is second hand from my brother about my other brother. 1989 Chevy 4x4 Seems he had starter problems so he had his son-in-law beat on the starter to get it going. In doing so he must have put a hole in the tranny line, not good. Sounds like he ran the transmission out of fluid. He got to the shop, new starter and tranny lines and added a bunch of fluid. Problem: When it shifts there is a bang but it does go. Any thoughts? Transmission junk? Oriley |

| 89, should be a 700r4. When you say bang, do you mean a hard shift or does it make a loud noise?

| I could be wrong (someone will correct me if I am) but... Starter is on the passenger side, and the tranny lines are on the driver's side, no? What was he whacking it with? A length of logging chain?

| I don't know. Like I said it was second hand knowledge. I would think it wasn't completly out of fluid cause he got it there but probally pretty low. Thanks, Oriley |

| Nope trans lines are on passenger side most vehicles Bern. You're on your truck may be bit differant because I think your truck has an oil cooler too does it not? So depending on which of the radirator tanks for oil cool, and trans cool, will decide which side the lines run. Oil filter is on the left though, so you think, Oil on left, trans on right even on your truck.

| One thing nice about MOST auto transmissions. You run them out of fluid, they quit working, quit compressing clutch drums etc, so its hard to destroy an auto trans in most cases by running it out of fluid. Being low on fluid, it could run hotter and cause premature wear, but not likely to trash the trans. Almost like an alcholic. Its hard for them to overdose since they get so drunk gradually they can't drink no more and pass out, but it does take its toll on the long run. Not saying either CAN'T happen, but unlikely in MOST cases.

| Talked with sister.....she says he only drove it about a mile and noticed smoking, from the tranny fluid I suppose, and drove back. So he only drove it maybe 2 miles then had it towed to the garage. I don't know but you wouldn't think it would do that much damage in that short distance. Sorry I can't get more information, deer season opens tomorrow and he's off to deer camp for who knows how long lookin' for dat tirty pointer! Thanks O'Riley |
