1. The transfer case actuator (if it's clicking, it should be working) 2. The vacuum actuator that engages the axles. (This is where I would focus my attention) I see you have already been through most of the troubleshooting, but I noticed from the quoted post that you didn't mention if the rod was moving. You should be able to see it move in & out when it engages the axles. On my old 83, everything seemed to be working, but the axles weren't engaging because of this problem. As a temporary fix to get me out of the trails I was on, I grabbed a pair of Visegrips, pulled the rod out, & locked it down. This engaged the 4wd, but I wouldn't recommend it as a permanent fix (unless you are a fix it with duct tape kind of guy, lol). The problem is that air can come in & out of the actuator & it still might need replaced. There is a rubber piece inside the actuator that acts like a suction cup & if there is even the slightest tear, goodbye 4wd. I hope this fixes your problem, good luck. | |

| Nice to see you back around RAGO, Hope all is well !!! Hopefully your suggestion works for this guy, he's been trying hard to get it fixed, and I have not experienced this problem yet.

| I really do appreciate all the help from everybody hear.Honestly! The locking spring on the actuator was gone, and the only way u can get a NEW one is to buy the whole new actuator. SO, i went and bought 2 clips like the ones you put on your hitch pin, and put them both in the springs place.THere is NOW WAY that shift cable is pulling out of those. I dont know what rod I should be checking to see if it is going in and out? |

| Well the only thing I can think of is the rod in the tube that moves the fork. pictured as #10 in that diagram.

| ok now i know what you are talkina bout...Thanks for that picture. When i took it all apart to look at the actuator that rod wasnt even hooked in, because that spring was missing. So, pretty much all i have to do is have someone press the button and see if that is moving. What if it isnt?and what if it is? |
