I used my 93 1/2 ton ext cab with 3.42 rear axle ratio and 5.7 eng to haul a 20' enclosed wells cargo auto hauler with at times up to max of 7700lbs with no issues, had brakes on both trailer axles, I would have preferred 3/4 ton but you go with what you have. You should be ok, good luck, enjoy.

Indeed, this may fear of the unknown. In a previous life I towed the same model boat and trailer (quad drums) with a 3/4t Suburban. Occasionally when "taxiing" over uneven terrain the cargo would jerk the back end of the Suburban like a toy - a little unnerving! I simply need to test the waters with the 1/2t.

I run a 99 Silverado LT 1/2 with the 5.3
I put Firestone air bags and spring assist shocks on it and pull a 5000 pound load regularly with no issue.
I would just change the gear oil with a high grade synthetic and check the u-joins for looseness. I have also been told to upgrade the tranny cooler form the stock one, that might be a good idea as well.

Trans Cooler would be a great idea. Just be sure to keep the stock one in the radiator also.
