| A question on motor swaping Hi again, i have another question on swapping motors. I have an 86 chevy longbed pickup with a 305 V8 that needs rebuilding badly. A friend of mine has a rebuilt 4.3 with under 10,000 miles on it that came out of his wrecked S10. He offered it to me for free if i want it so here's the question...how hard would it be to swap my 305 out with the 4.3 and would it have enough power to handle a fullsize longbed. My truck is a longbed chevy 2wd with the 400th automatic. I know most swaps involve replacing the V6 with the V8 but hey, i can't beat the price, especially when i can't afford to rebuild the 305. Btw, both motors are carburated and have no emissions. Any help would be appreciated....thanks |

| not hard at all , but i don't think you'll be happy with the performance , but in these times you must do with what it takes to get by , how about selling the 4.3 and buying a short block or trading out right .

| I would stay with a SBC in it the 4.3 would be a strech on power. Also i would look into getting a 350 instead of the 305. You will have a little more power and the 350 is quite a bit cheaper to rebuild than a 305 if i remember right.
