    92 chevy c1500 v6 idle issue

i am currently experiencing an idle issue while either at a traffic light waiting for it to turn green or at a extended stop at a stop sign.

the truck runs and starts just fine. idles fine in park. drop it into gear and head on down the road and it just fine until you have a traffic signal or stop sign you can hear the motor after 30 seconds or maybe longer starting to die down to almost no idle and wanting to die right there, but then it will catch itself and start to die again.

now if you put the gear in neutral while waiting the idle is just fine.

the truck has over 176k on it and i have not really done anything to it in the 3 years that i have owned it.

any help in trying to solve this issue will be much welcomed and thanks.

would it be the egr valve or the egr control solenoids and how do you test / check to see if this is the problem other than a mechanic.

I took it to my friend and a buddy of his who works at a auto dealer as a mechanic found a cracked elbow on the line that runs from the pcv valve over to the base of the carb/tbi unit.

while they were looking in that area they found the egr valve was functioning probably.

so far by replacing that cracked elbow has solved the problem.

i hope it is the only one also. seems to be running alright. the gas mileage has gone up from 14-16 highway with cruise set to around 25 with the cruise on.

did a code scan and got a code 32 egr malfunction and code 45 o2 sensor is rich. now mind you that my truck does not have the cat converter installed on it. it was removed prior to me purchasing the vehicle.

Glad to hear you found leak, thanks for posting what it was.

Vac is connected to the EGR and can inflence what the O2 sees,
so if codes came before repair of vac elbow,
reset code by pulling ECM fuse for a minute
and hopefully you're good to go.
If you reset codes by disconnecting battery,
give the truck some time to relearn it's memory before
deciding it has any further problems.

    Great mileage BTW, I see 16 and I'll throw a party (K1500).
I think you have a TBI (fuel injected), not carb'd engine,
but I am SURE you don't have both.

well the idle problem has shown back up. i have replaced the egr valve and the distributor cap and rotor button. neither one seems to have solved the problem.

what i have done tonight is pull the vacuum line off that goes to the egr valve and see if that made any difference. i dropped it in drive while parked and let it idle.

i may drive it tomorrow without the vacuum line attached and see what that does.

i have the same problem only on a 350tbi. Mine threw a 43 and 44 code. What could be the problem there. Always when you start it, it surges and runs rough for about 20-30 seconds then smooths out
