Question 1995 Silverado ignition timing

I have recently replaced my intake manifold gaskets. In process the distributor was removed. It has since been reinstalled and the engine started. I would like set the base ignition timing. Where is the timing connector that must be disconnected to place the distributor in the by-pass mode? Also where is the degree mark located for setting the timing with the lite. What should the timing be set at. Thank you for your assistance. Mark

if im not mistaken it is next to the blower motor on your model. it should be an ornage or brown wire with electrical tape. base timing is 0 unpluged

After searching for a long time I found the ignition bypass wire underneath the glove box near the blower motor. Thanks to this thread. It turns out my timing was two degrees after TDC. That explains the lack of power!

you tagged a 4yr post, and the wire you need is not inside the vehicle, but outside near the relay box

Uh, I found it under the glove box just like I said. Look at thomasnchy's post. If it wasn't for that post I'd still be looking. It may very well be by the relay box in some models but not on my '95 Silverado with 5.7 TBI

Leo you're cracking me up.

Your first reply was 3.75 yrs later than OP.
And was right if talking about AK's 92 & 94 trucks.

elguapo was only 1.17 yrs behind you.
elguapo gets credit from me for doing what newbies rarely do.
First he researched what's here before asking.
Second he gave credit to the forum for value received.

Welcome to the forum elguapo.
A place where we are seeing so many posts nowadays
that we're all starting to lose track of dates and trucks.

Thanks for letting us know forum helped you,
many don't say when it did, just get info and split.
Leo and others have put a lot of time and effort in here,
and it's nice, and too rare, to hear it does some good.

Just my opinion for what it's worth, though nobody's perfect:
Leo easily makes the top ten here for friendly and smart.

Thanks crabtruck,
I never really paid attention to the date on the post. I looked for a long time to try and find the ignition bypass wire. All the manuals I read said firewall or relay box. Obviously Hanes and others don't have all of the right info. This morning there is another post by mtsnieg asking the same question on a '94 Silverado so while it may be an older post the info is still quite useful. Thanks again to all for the help.

Regards, Elguapo
