    Automatic transmission stuck in 3rd

I have a 93 chevy k1500. Tranny does not shift unless you shift into low then it will start in 1st. Put it in drive and it seems to be in 3rd.

sounds like a stuck solenoid in the valvebody throw some z max or lucas tranny treatment in it drive it for a little while and the try the drive gear again if not could be the vss is getting an inaccurate reading and not telling it to shift right
Why leave it alone when you can always make it better?

I haven't had much luck with running Lucas in the transmission... Try Trans-Medic. It's thin, isn't as viscous as Lucas and works its way into the small stuff easier.
I'm thinking it's something to do with the VSS. 1993 was the transition year from the 700r4 to the electronic 4L60E transmission. Which one do you have?

Okay...I will try the trans medic first. But how do you know which tranny it is...meaning 700r4 or 4l60e. And also this may sound dumb , but what is the vss

VSS is Vehicle Speed Sensor. It should be on the transfer case tailshaft. It will only matter if you have a 4L60E trans. Look in your glovebox for the transmission code to identify what trans you have.
