Wink 2000 Chevy tranny shifting hard

My dad has a 2000 Chevy truck that shifts into place hard, so hard that sometime's it makes the truck jerk while driving on the freeway. To the point that he has to shut it off and restart it.

Can anyone help me stear him in the right direction. (he did have it looked at and they said everything was ok)

Thanks!

A helpful daughter

There should be a trans. code stored in the cumputer, need to have it pulled and go from there, should be something like a 1870 code.

Hard shift

This concern is most likely related to a transmission pressure regulator which regulates transmission internal pressure. Sometimes the solenoid sticks and allows full pressure to reach clutch packs casuing a very hard shift. When you stop the vehicle and turn the key off the solenoid usually resets itself resulting in normal operation. Pressure switch $80.00 and approx 1 hour to replace

Could be a thottle position sensor concern since the computor uses this sensor to make it shifts. Would have to monitor the sensor wioth a scan tool and lots of times they will not set a code with just erratic readings

I agree with g.m. tech. I had a 97 that shifted hard only when it was driven in overdrive after it warmed up. If I resarted it and ran in drive it never did it. I replaced the TPS and no more problems.

I have a 97 that does this too in all 4 gear positions. I had the tranny flushed and went as far as having it taken appart to locate any gears that were tore up. Both shops could not find anything wrong with the tranny. It doesn't reset after you turn off the key either it does this all the time.
