Shifting problems in my '97 Silverado

    Hey guys..I'm new here.
Anyways, the other day, after a long drive, I started noticing that the transmission had difficulty shifting into second gear. In first, taking off from a light, the RPM's would come up high, and when it would go to finally shift into second gear, it would "studder" a bit. This cleared up relatively quickly, and shifting thereafter was no problem at all. This is not a regular problem. In fact, the only other time this has happened was when the truck was cold. Yesterday, I had just gotten back from a 360 mile trip.
I did check the tranny fluid, and it was full and didn't have any odor or odd color to it. This truck is a rock..It has just over 185k miles on it.
Any input will be extremely helpful!

    Thanks everyone!

    Matt from Wisconsin

Hello silveradoman and welcome . Do you have a service light on ..or abs ?
If so need to scan it for codes can do free at auto parts.
It sounds like the throttle position sensor .

Gitter done have fun. Running on empty...running blind...running behind.....

when was the last time you had the trans serviced? there might be sludge in the trans even though the color is good. some people just change the filter and fluid in the pan, others do the flush too. might be solenoids sticking. and you will have to find someone with more knowledge about automatic trans than me to ask how to test them....

I purchased the truck with 173k on it. When I purchased it, the ABS light was on. The guy reduced his price by over $1000 because he said it would be at least that much to fix the problem..Something about a bad ABS controller. I never had it looked at because to be quite honest, I hate ABS to begin with, and it never had any issues. (I've owned the truck almost 2 years now).
    Thanks for the info!

I purchased this truck with 173k on it about 2 years ago. There didn't appear to be any service information about when the tranny was last serviced, and to be honest, I'm always worried about changing the fluid in the trans if it hasn't been changed in awhile. I suppose a stuck solenoid could be the problem. I don't have any additional shifting problems at all, and this is an intermitten problem.
Thanks for the info! I appreciate it!
