98 chev 02 censor 5.7 vortec

Last month my check engine light lit up and as a result I had two o2 sensors changed at the local shop.Same problem again with sensors only a month later.
Is this a common problem or did I get bad parts? They checked the cataletyc converter for back preasure and all was good there. Ther is about 130000 kms on the engine and Its in good shape too. Any Ideas out there?

there are 4 sensors, one on each manifold ( one from left side of engine, one from right), one sensor where the 2 manifolds come together before the cat, and one right after the cat. depending on which sensors are messing up or taking bad readings, could tell us where the problem lies..... is it the cat, or somethin in the engine and which side. just my ideas and opinions

Umm 1997 had 4 ,2 on each side both before the cat, Neither on the manifold. Did they change on 1998? I will have to look tonight and see.

wojeepster will become famous soon enoughwojeepster will become famous soon enough
the closet o2 sensor to the engine is the one that feeds info to the ecu to modify the mixture. the second 02 sensor just monitors the cat.

normally the only way you will have problems with cats is if they are pluged, you can actually gut them on most vehicles, however this is illegal so I dont advise doing it. All cats are for is pollution control. Dont gut them though, If you get caught you can get a heavy fine.
