Elusive manual transmission

I own a 94 Chevy 1500 4x4, 350 with a 5 speed manual. Recently went out looking for a nearly new Chev of the same type. When I told the salesman I wanted it with a manual, he looked at me like I was from another planet. "Really, no one ever requests those anymore. We don't even have one on the lot, new or used." All they had in stock with a manual were HD 3500 diesels with the new 6 speed allison. As much as I would love to drive one of those around, it is overkill for what I use mine for. I searched around other dealerships and got the same response.

My question is, am I alone in my love for trucks standard trannys? I like to be in control of what's going on with my truck, and for me, automatics just don't act like I would like them to.

Also, is this just a regional thing? (I'm in WI) I can't seem to track down the truck I want in a manual.

Check online, you can build it at the chevy website, or you may find used at auto trader or something of the like. Good luck! Manuals are pretty common out here, but I'm not sure bout where u are at...

Maybe its your area....we've got prettymuch an even amount of autos and manuals here in NY. Seems for every one I know with an auto truck theres another one who's got a stick.

Its not just you. I spent 4 months trying to find my powerstroke with a manual. these car builders are pushing their "heavy duty" automatics so much that you pretty much have to order it from the factory with a manual cause the dealers won't stock 'em.

I know what you mean. I like my trucks with a manual gearbox and as many gears as possible. I like the shift pattern of the newer 6-speeds too, with Reverse top-left, 1st bottom-left, like a heavy duty straight truck/semi.
No auto's in a truck for this guy!
