Mine does the tail lights burn out all the time and the only brake light i have is the top one. My dad's 98 used to eat up batterys like every 3 or 4 months. Does anyone else have or know about these problems? oh another thing i was stopped the other day and i decided to put it into first and shift it my self ( its an auto tranny) and i went to shift at 3000 and it changed by its self i stoped at the next light put it in park and tired again and it did the same but this time when i was at about 30 mph it went into first other then the seat belt rash from jerking foward it works fine but what would cause that . sorry this is so long lots of problems |

| It's a common problem, where the lights burn out. I'm tellin ya, and I just had this discussion with my friend, 7 out of 10 chevys that I see on the road is missing a running light/tail light/brake light and I'm not just sayin this cuz i don't like chevys, i'm sayin it cuz it's an observation that I"ve noticed..... Oh, and check your tranny fluid

| The light problem sounds like a short somewhere. Does it blow the bulb as soon as you replace them or do they last for so long? As for the transmission its normal, but not normal. In theory if you put it in 1st it should stay there until you shift into 2nd. But on the 4L60E's and 4L80E's its designed to shift by itself into 2nd for "safety purposes" to keep from over revving or what not. Sometimes they just act up. My 97 did it, my bro's 96 did it. If you Place it down in 1st and hammer on it, it "should" stay there until you shift. If you put it in first and casually accelerate it will shift into 2nd automatically almost every time. But like I said sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

| The transmission seems fine, mine does the same thing... if you put it in first, it will wind out to about 4k then auto shift from first to second, then if you let off the gas, it will wait a sec and then downshift when it feels "safe" to downshift. it'll throw you forwards hard... Mine will actually lock the rear tires for a sec when downshifting. If you put it in second, it'll start in second gear, and keep winding it out, it will even auto shift eventually. |
