Electronic questions

I have a 68 Chevy that is driving me nuts. I am having a intermittent problemswith the ignition system. It starts sometimes but ussually does'nt.

I am pretty limited as far as mechanical skills go. The problem I am seeing when its not working is: I don't get spark while I am turning the key but when I back the key to the off position I get spark.

I replaced the ignition(where the key goes) and nothing, I replaced the MSD 6A ignition system and the problems still there. I replaced the starter cable which had a slice in it, nothing. We have traced all the wiring and it looks good.

My next geuss is to replace the coil, if that does'nt work then I can try the distributer.
This is aggravating because I keep tossing money at this thing yet the problem is still there. Anyone have any clues as to why I am having this problem?

Yeah definately try the coil, I was having ignition problems with my 86 and ended up being the ignition module, but i didn't figure that out until i had already replaced half of the distributor, cap, rotor, coil, etc. Keep us updated on how it goes

Definately an electrical short. Spark should not be present unless the key is in th ON position unless you have a wiring problem, Coil and module do not generate electrical voltage, they simply convert and time the signal. Not in either one of these components.
