Yep, another 350 question

What makes the timing advance on an HEI distributor when you accelerate?
is it the computer, or a sensor or what?
Thanks
Chris

What year of distributor are you talking about? Most of the ones I've worked on advance the timing based upon a vacuum signal from the carb.

You are correct, depends on the year, In the early to mid 80s chevy went from a vacuum actuated advance to a computer controlled advanced distribuitor.

It is an 89 TBI.
Chris, I am still trying to figure out the dumb stumbling problem that I am having. The more I think about it, it seems like when you have a bad plug or wire and it doesn't have any power.
Did you sell your CJ yet?
I got rid of my YJ and got this truck, and just this weekend I bought two more YJs! Am I dumb or what????

No way, you cant have too many vehicles. 2 yjs huh, I see a project on the horizon. No I havent sold my cj5 yet, This is about the only place I have it for sale except this other forum and it is full of Jeep bashin toyota people. Funny though they bashed my jeep and told me how inadequate it was, But when I invited them to come on over and wheel their 4 banger yotas with me, noone showed? Odd huh? I thought so. I think it is alot of kids with stock toyotas that drove off the pavement once when they missed the driveway and got a tire in the grass and decided they were wheelers. Anyhow do both the jeeps run and drive or it there a project there? Keep me posted. Wish we were closer, I know I could solve this stumblin problem, Just hard to do from a keyboard. How old is the distribuitor cap and rotor bug?

Not sure about the rotor and cap. I was going to replace them this weekend. The guy that I got the truck off of said that he did all of that when he was trying to fix the problem.
There isn't a difference in fuel pumps between a 305 and a 350 is there?
The one YJ runs and is complete, but the body is pretty tough. The other YJ has no drivetrain, but the body isn't too bad on it. I paint for a living, so I am going to do the body and paint on the one and smack the driveline from the other in it. I don't know whether I am going to keep it or just do a quick mopandglo paint on it and sell it. I really want a CJ. If I keep the YJ, I will go SOA and do it right.
When I got the one YJ, I also got a CJ front clip that has glass fenders. The whole thing has never been installed (hood, grill with lights and fenders). I got the jeep with no driveline and the clip on a trade for a paintjob on another YJ for a kid that I used to wheel with.
Any other ideas on the truck would be greatly appreciated man. Thanks for all of your help so far, and yeah, it would be soooo much easier if we were closer together. It could be fixed in a day.

ALSO, if a distributor was put in one tooth off, how many degrees would it be out?? I was thinking about that today.
Just an idea.
Chris
