| Engine Ed please help oops i ment ID on the title haha ok guys ive got one for you we pulled the 454 out of our 70 chevelle yesterday we looked and looked for the engine id number for a long time in the place you would think it would be back of the motor pass. where the tranny hooks up anyway we pulled it and it was on the driver side strange huh but it also said hi prof passenger so i looked up the number it gave and it said it came out of an 78'-90' car im thinking it was out of a corvette so we put in the brand new crate motor bada** motor 450 hp 500 torqe oh man im getting chills thinking about it. So we put the new one in and we went to start it up and all of a sudden there was a drip of coolent coming out of the passenger side header then a bunch came out so we turned it off thinking it was a plug or something so we took out the plugs just to see if the coolent went that far and so we took out the #1 plug and all the coolent came out so now we dont know whats up with it we thinking that there is no head gasket or maybe the head is cracked so if you guys have any clue that would really help thanks alot |

| All Chevy cast number are on the drivers side behind the head where you described. never seen them on the passenger side. Anyhow your problem sounds like a head gasket installed incorrectly. If the motor is a crate motor Pull it and send it back. This is a sign of poor workmanship, or cheap parts.

| Is a crate motor with intake headers carb an everything attached or is it a long block with block and heads no offense but alot of people confuse the two. Any way the reason I ask if it is a long block the most common reason for coolant problems is a misaligned intake gasket or an improperly torqued intake when you assembled it it happens more than you would think my buddy is a proffessional engine builder and he will even reluctantly admit to it once or twice. Anyway something to check. Long live the sbc. |
