truck not getting fuel woes

so ive got a 92 c1500 w/ 4.3 TBI that dies from lack of fuel. its got a brand new fuel pump and relay and it still does this. it will run fine for a while till i go somewhere then die out on me and not start back up for a few hours, when it dies out like this i can hear the fuel pump turning on either. i have no idea what it is, i took it to a mechanic and they couldnt get it to die and thought i was crazy, anyone?

Get a wiring diagram for your truck and look at the fuel pump/ fuel relay diagram. I have a 1987 throttle body where the fuel pump was running all the time even after you removed the relay! When I looked at my wiring diagram I found the oil switch and the ecu were connected to this circuit! I tapped on the oil switch by the oil filter and my fuel pump turned off. evidently it is a safety so when you don't have oil pressure it shuts you down. This would explain why yours starts up at first using the relay and then will not restart (switch is telling ecu no oil press) Something to check anyway.
