| Ole Daisy girl (1986 Chevy Silverado) Alright, well I found out for my graduation present i can spend 5 grand on an engine and tranny for my truck, what kind of a setup should i go for with this much money. I appreciate all suggestions so don't be afraid to speak up. Current engine: 305 *sigh*

| It depends on what you want. i would look for a quality long block and consider beefing up the transmission. Limited slip rear diff wouldnt hurt either.

| re You can have the tranny rebuilt for about $450 and and find a good long block that has been hoped up a little for about $1200. That leaves you a lot let over to play with. I would go with a set of lower gears. Your truck probably came w/ 308 wich wont give you much get up and go since you probably have a 350 lockup tranny. Also an exellent way to improve the looks of an 86 Chevy is to replace the current grill and lights W/ an 88-92 suburban/blazer front end. It fits right in, looks great, and the wireing for the headlights is super simple. Good Luck |

| Dont buy a run of the mill small long block. look to spend more and get a better product. Look in the summit magazine and the jegs and see what they have to offer.

| alright brotha, gunna look around, consider my options, i have a lil while so no rush, just trying to get an idea, thanks I appreciate the suggestions, as for the grill, yes it does look good, but i think i'm gunna stick with the current setup, just get a billet grill probably, get some wheels, eventually get it re-painted with all the little dents and dings taken out, maybe a roll pan out back, i dunno we'll see, another question i have real quick is the dash lights for the gauges, mine seem to be dim even when turned up to the brightest, can i get new brighter ones?? lol prolly a stupid question but its me so
