| 02 Silverado Trany Slipping Any Chevy Techs out there know anything about this problem. Once in a while when taking off from a light my traney slips for a second. When I let off of the gas it locks in and then it is fine. I only experience this about one or two times per year. My brothers 2001 Silveradoe and my wifes 1999 Bonniville has done it also.

| How often do you have the transmission serviced? maybe time for a filter and fluid change. This is the first i have heard of this without being neglect of the owner, so it seems odd that they all 3 do it?

| Well my truck is a 2002 and the recomended service is at 100,000. I do not pull any kind of trailer so I see no need to do it before the scheduled time. When my brothers truck started it he had the traney serviced right away even though his truck had not reached the scheduled service period. His truck is still doing it. The Bonney has 123,000 on it and we had the traney done at 100k just like the service manual states. It has not done it since the service.

| That 100k service is for the birds trans fluid needs to be changed every 30k or you'll be replacing it. That 100k is only if you drove it on a highway all day in normal temps. the manual tells you if stop and go driving or extreme hot or cold temps to chage every 30k. |

| You recommendation mileage # will depend on your mech. I know mine (with 50 years of work) feels its just a ploy to get money...like so many other of the "required maintenances" of today. He cant be too wrong...I dont see a bunch of cars in his parking lot needing new trannys...nor any lawsuits But its personal opinion. To me, its alot of money to spend if my mech doesnt support or recommend it. He's never let me down.

| then why don't you change your oil only every 100k. its because the lubrication properties break down and the anti corosive agents break down and the contaminates build up. its the same with all the fluids in the vehicle oil, trans, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc. 100k is way too long to wait and the trans fluid even looses adheresion properties like when the trans pan is removed and you move the pan around the remaining fluid does not even want to stick to the pan it kinda puddles up. but like you said its only a recomendation and to each their own |

| OK, being we're on the topic and you recommend the tranny change. What would be some signs of trouble if you didnt get the oil changed as "recommended". Im at a little over 76k....no tranny change. What problems would you expect me to have now? Just curious

| lets see where to start. fluid over time and temp starts to loose it lubrication, cleaning and adhession properties and seals start to dry out causing slipping or wont move right away on cold start ups, clutches start to deteriorate and burn putting debris in the valve body and shift solenoids causing erratic shifting (late, early, in and out of lock up) torque convertor failure/noises. Its a mechanical part of the vehcile much like the engine what happens when you dont change the oil for 30k it eventualy lets you done and cost you money thats why a maintained vehicle runs longer and better than one that is not. |

| I donot recommend waiting till 100k to service the transmission. Every 30k for normal operation. less for extreme duty. If you dont service it regul intervals expect it to give up and stop working. It is simple, it is a lubrication that also cleans and cools the internals, If it is dumping dirty debris in the fluid, expect life of the trans to be shortened.
