new guy with a question

Hi, i'm Andy and I have a problem. Oops wron forum.
Anyway, I just joined this forum, I am usually on a woodworking fourm, and I have a small question.
I have an 04 Silverado and there is so much noise from the windshield I can't hear the radio.
Someone riding with me said it was the trim around the windshield that was vibrating and making the noise.

Anyone else have this problem???

What does it sound like? Have you been able to pin point it?
It could be loose trim, you may be able to run you fingers along the trim to see if it wiggles anywhere.

What kind of noise are we talking about a rattle, whistle, hum, depending on the type noise will help diagnose the problem. A whistle or hiss is usually indicative of a bad seal. this can be fixed by eiter having the window pulled and reset or by finding the leak and filling with black urethane. Try finding some 2 inch tape seal over the outer gap of the windshield and see if the sound goes away. Also do you have any thing like windshield visor or side window visors if they are not fastened correctly they can make a terrible noise mostly a vibrating or a humming.

By the way moostang I bite, its my dogs that like to watch. Its the people that keep wild things that should run free that I loathe.....

Went to the chev dealer yesterday. When I told them I had a (sp)raddling type sound, he looked at the bug shield and said "it is the trim on your windshield." The bug shield willl change the air flow over the windshield and cause the trim to start vibrating.

Andy try taking off the bug shiel and see if the sound goes away. I cant think of any trim on the windshield that would be loose enough to rattle theres nothing there. I have a bug deflector on mine and it doesnt cause any problems if the deflector is causing something to ratlle then that something isnt fastened correctly. The dealer should have tightened the trim if that was the case. the only trim I can think of is the wipermotor cover the black trim in front of the windshield. Let us know what you find

Ive never heard of a bug shield that could mess up air flow so much that it made things rattle. Thats a bit out there if you ask me.
Sounds like loose trim period if you ask me. A bug shield shouldnt alter air flow and make things rattle.

I am with you.. I have never heard of a bug shield doing that. But like SP said above.. you could always take it off to verify that.

Its the bug shield. I have a 2001 chevy and mine makes a rattling buzzing noise with the shield gone noise is gone. We have had other trucks in the shop same complaint take off the bug shield noise goes away. I have tried to pin point the noise on my truck sounds like left side and i have tapped off moldings and under the cowl still have not pinpointed the source.

if this is a static sound the seems like it comes from your stereo but it isnt, and is even worse in a diagonal cross wind, it is the seal on your windshield, do you have a heavy duty model? i've got an 00 2500 that it does it really bad in a cross wind. and brother in law's old job bought 2500s/3500s left and right for construction n they had the same problem whether or not they had a bug shield on, they figured out to take clear silicon caulking around the bottom of the windshield helps stop the problem. defect in chevys
