I bought an 02 Chevy Crew cab 8.1 liter and it has been into the shop three times sense I bought it. The first time it was nothing that was a big deal it was cam excentrics. The second time it was a crank shaft position sensor and the third time was the neutral safety switch. Is this normal or did a buy a peace of ****.

| When you buy a used truck, you are buying someone elses problems, This is not normal, You should always take a prospective vehicle to a mechanic before you buy it.

Not normal i work on them all day and other than the alingment eccentrics/adjsutment have had no problems with neutral saftey switches and only a couple of crank sensors that needed to be spaced to give it more clearance from the ring

Thanks, Ya I bought from a dealership that my friend works at and his family owns it so I thought I would be safe because they went over the truck there and said it was good. I have not had any more problems yet but who nows it has only been a couple of weeks sense that last time it was in the shop.

8.1 From what I hear the 8.1 has had a problem with the CPS. Mine was bad , would just die randomly and replaced it, its been good for 10k miles. They are abitch to change though. I can give you some pointers if need be.

This truck is a piece of ****!!!! Just my opinion. I bought a 01 hd 8.1 liter and have had nothing but troubles. I too had cam sensor go out. I've also had problems with coolant. I have 3 visits for coolant loss. One into engine. Twice for cam sensor. Also it burns oil excessively only to be told it is normal for this engine. I have 50,000 miles on it and the coolant light came on again. I got countless dealer nightmares that go with this truck as well. This is a piece of @*$! motor. I'm a die hard chevy guy and I will tell you that this truck has/is tested my loyalty. Good luck on your truck.
