85 silverado fuel pump mystery

I changed out my fuel pump because it was leaking running perfect.I but the new one in and no start.I poured fuel over the carb and it stared, and died.I returned the pump but a new one in it didnt work.I put the old one in it didnt work,it did before.I put the rod up to the cam and put the pump in to be sure it was right and it still didnt work. What ele could be wrong, can the cam or timing chain be bad or the rod?

Your probably not getting the pump in right so that the rod is not working the pump. I'll try to explain how to do it. The fuel pump is on the right front corner of the engine and on the front of the engine facing forward there are 2 bolts or bolt holes that thread in from the front of the engine toward
the fuel pump. If i remember corectly the upper hole of the 2 goes all the way into the fuel pump rod. So with the feul pump removed push the rod back up inside the engine and find a longer bolt to go in that upper hole from the front of the engine and screw it in til it touches and holds the rod up. You dont need to tighten the bolt up just enough to hold the rod up til your able to get the fuel pump in and under the rod. Then remove the long bolt reassembly and then the fuel pump should work since you said it ran before I can't believe anything else went wrong. I hope this helps.
