| I have a 1978 silverado ,when i put it in gear i hear a grinding or clunking noises.i'm holding the brake while this is being done. pulled the cover to rear end spider gears ,axle gears, pin, clips, all seem to be fine;no metal shaving in pan. wheels will turn manually, can anyone give me a clue? |

| Sounds like carrier bearings to me. How does your mesh pattern on the teeth of the ping and pinion look?

| all teeth look good, no signs of wear on them.could it be the u-joint? |
