4x4 and fuel guage problems?

I jave a 2000 silverado with a 5.3. The fuel guage bounces all over from empty to full and is never accurate. Is there maybe a sensor on the tank that is bad? And my service 4wd light comes on and sometimes it wont work. Does work well when it is cold outside though. Hope someone has an idea. I dont.

Yes there is a fuel level sensor in the tank and that is what most all the time causes the gas gauge to bounce. The sensor fingers get worn down or off and cause the gauge to bounce. The fuel level sensor can be purchased by itself or as a complete tank unit with the pump. Depending upon mileage and how full or empty you run your tank you may want to replace the complete unit. From the dealer the complete unit is in the 400-500 range and i think the sensor is less than 100.00. As far as the 4x4 light coming on if you have the push button switches on the dash that is the most likely the fault. I have replaced alot of those switches but there have also been alot of bullitens with some of them getting into ground problems. the switch is I think under 100.00 too. I don't do alot of cash work on these parts mostly warranty so I don't see pricing that often. Any more questions feel free to ask.
