 |  1997 chevy tahoe gage light problem I have a 1997 chevy tahoe. I have had this problem off and on for some time now. What happens is I will be driving along and my check gage light will come on as well as my check engine light. Then I will only have like third gear in my truck yeah third gear like it won't shift untill I clear this problem. What I usually do to clear this is stop put my tahoe in park turn off the motor and start it back up again. It appers to be something in my stearing column a short or something. I have had it in three times and know one has a clue yet. Has anyone had this problem or heard of anything like this before. Help!!!!! Thanks!! |

 | I would think PRNDL switch on transmission but i'm not sure. GMTECH or Chevyguy should be able to help more.

| Have had alot of problems with ignition switches and not allowing power to trans but ususaly happens at start up a you will notice no check engine light or you go to take off and its starts out in 3rd. Just like you said turn off and restart and maybe ok for awhile. |

| Thanks guys I think you may be in the right spot. I had the transmission replaced a year ago and after this problem had them go back threw all the switchs and they said everything ohmed out like it should. How big of a deal is it to change out that ignition switch??? |

| Where is this prndl switch located at? I can feel my shifter getting tight when the gage light comes on. Like when I go to put it in gear its alot harder then when the gage light is out. Thanks JRjohnwayne |

| its bolted to the tranmission where the shift cable connects. it'll have a plug with 15 or so wires coming out of it.
