| Manual to Auto Tranny????? how much work would there be to swap a 700R4 into a 92 Z71 with a 5 speed transmission. a few things i am aware of is that the motor might not be balanced for the automatic so i've heard from some people. i know i'd have to swap radiators or use an aftermarket cooler. not sure of the electronics on the 700R4. not too worried about shifter, if i can come up with an automatic column for cheap, i'll go that route if not i'll go with floor shifter. if anybodys done this before please give me some before and after stories. thanks alot.

| not hard at all. Tranny will bolt up to motor. Yeah you'll need a cooler, already have a hole so a floor shifter would work. As for the electronics you can wire a toggle swtich for the lock up solenoid. Never heard of the motor not being balanced for an auto. You'll have to change to flywheel to a flexplate. Not hard at all.

| i had heard from a friend that they had swapped manual to auto and he had said there was a problem and it was cuz the motor wasnt balanced for that tranny or somethin. in my own experience me and my friends have swapped munsey 3's for th350's in our trucks as often as we change socks it seemed and never had a problem with 'em but i figure i'd throw that one out there since the truck im plannin on doin a tranny swap in aint a 62 chevy its a 92 and theres so much **** these days thats complicated i wasnt sure what to expect but thanks. also if you could elaborate on the wiring for the 700R4 and how it would operate and also is there a difference between a tranny for a 2WD vs. 4WD. Thanks alot

| The output shafts are different thats about it. Same case. As for elaboration on the wiring i can't remember. It's been many moons since i've done one of those. Sorry.

| one of two ways. Change the output shafts. Or get rid of the transfer case meaning no 4x4

| O.K. as for the balancing info. Stop listening to the friend that told you that, He doesnt have a clue. No balance issues between an auto and a manual. Its the same motor. No difference except the appropriate flywheel or flexplate but they cannot be interchanged with the wrong application. A 2wd trans can be converted to a 4wd trans but unless you have the parts just laying around handy it can get sort of expensive. It requires the output chaft to be cahnged and on some applications it almost like rebuilding the whole trans anywhay.

| kinda figured that on the balancing issue but wanted to cover my bases which you can understand. like i said we changed tranny's out in our trucks all the time. once a week at times and never had problems. except for the tranny's goin out, dang street rods were hard on them old trannys. only one that held up was the munsey 3. anyways i just wanted to know the in's and out's of makin the swap. i guess i'll just see what i can get done. and what i can come up with.

| i never ran it in my truck, i always put th350's back in mine. it was steadily in and out of my friends truck and it was one i think he had ran in one of his or his dads race cars, only thing i knew then were the ratios and i dont even remember them now.
