Gauge Cluster Question???

Can you swap a gauge cluster with a tach into a truck that came with a guage cluster without tach. 88-94. its in a 92 Chevy Truck. I have made the swap in a mazda truck and it worked out just fine with a few slight mod's for the speedo cable, the wiring harness plugged in just fine though. just thought i would ask because im wanting to make the swap in my truck. thanks alot

Just drop in an aftermarket tach. Much simplier.

well i found a white faced gauge deal for the factory cluster w/ tach and i really like it but i cant find it for the plain jane speedo w/ oil,fuel,water,volt, gauges and i dont think im gonna find the white faced plate for that cluster but you are right it would be easier just to slap just a plain store bought tach in there unless its like the mazda i had and you can just plug the other one in with the same harness it has now.

you should be able to hook up a guage with a tach in it. A lot of cars/trucks have the wiring or wiring provisions for a guage with a tach. You will probably need either the dealer or someone qualified to either reset the odometer or put a tag on the truck door stating the old and new odo readings. My dad ended up with a new chuster in his beamer and BMW installed it and put a sticker on the door jam stating the reading of the old odo to avoid "odometer fraud".

some vehicles are harder than othes to swap from a non tach guage to a tach guage.

if i get a cluster with lower mileage can i stick a drill on it and let it spin for a while...lol idk if it would go backwards if i reversed the drill or not. i had a truck that you could drive in reverse and take the mileage off. kind of a crazy idea but who knows if it could be done without tearing up anything in the speedo. might as well just get a tag in the door jam though.

I'm wondering if a 90 cluster will fit my 93 GMC model truck the only thing is that the 90 GMC cluster didn't come with RPM gauge but I like the way the speedo looks especially when it bottoms out it starts over again at zero mph on my 90 truck I installed a RPM gauge on the steering column and it came with a green condom to place over the light bulb to match the other lights?
