95 S10 Blazer Problem

Hi,

I am new to this site and I wanted to see if anyone could help me with a problem with my girlfriends Blazer.

First of all, it has the CPI engine (code W, i think), and it will start and idle fine, but when you go to drive it anywhere it will run fine for a few minutes then it will act like it isn't firing or something then die, but most of the time it will start right back up and sometimes it has to sit for about 5 minutes or so. I was thinking that it may be a crack in the distributor cap or maybe a bad pickup in the distributor.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks

Ok, I bought the truck from my girlfriends mom with the intention of fixing it and driving it myself.....I have yet to figure out what is wrong with it. It seems like it is getting worse by the day. The first post wasn't an accurate description of the problem. After I bought the truck, I found out what they were talking about.....The truck is a pain in the @$$ to get started, it has to turn over SEVERAL times before it starts, and when it does it runs like ****. I took it to a shop and had a scanner hooked to it and 3 different codes popped up........one was an o2 sensor code which was only on there cause i unplugged it to see if it would make it smooth out any, another was a MAT (manifold air temperature) sensor (which i also unplugged by accident one day, and the last one said EGR system problem........this is the one that i figured would be the problem but i have no clue where anything like an egr valve or anything like that is......i dont think this model even has one......i think it is all electronically comtrolled or something. So if anyone can possibly shed some light on this nightmare then anyhelp would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is that the 4.3L V6? I have a 1998 s-10 blazer with the 4.3L so lemme try. First, I'd plug the O2 and MAT sensors back in, reset the codes, start it up and confirm that only the EGR code shows up. Does the motor also have trouble revving past a certain RPM? If that's true and you keep getting a list of error codes, I'd point to a clogged cat-verter.

However, I'd start cheap and replace the dist. cap, rotor, plugs and plug-wires. Check the air filter, replace if it's junk (and if a woman owned it... it's probably OEM.. no offense to your gal.) Also replace the fuel filter. In short, do the $5 and $10 items first (I know, that all adds up to like $100) and then go from there. Process of elimination. Let us know what's up.

I forgot to mention that the converter was already removed, and that i done a COMPLETE tune up with no luck (cap, wires , rotor, coil, plugs) and they said that they had just had the fuel pump and filter changed. It has no problems reving up at all, it just idles like ****. It will go to normal idle then almost die then go back to normal idle then almost die. Sometimes while driving it it wont rev past a certain rpm i dont have a tach so i dont know what rpm that is. It doesn't do that part all the time though........i dont know wtf is wrong with it!

BTW: corey, it is a 4.3 but it has a different intake setup than your truck.

i had the same problem with an old dodge that i had, i believe my problem was trash or water in the tank. i ended up taking the tank off and draining out bout a gal of water and junk. mine would idle fine and drive good but every so often, it too would fall on its face and die. wait a moment and good to go again. i also had a problem kinda like this with a 91 chevy but it turned out to be my coil wire where it broke and would fire until it got jouseled?? loose. is that how you spell that??

What it does is when it starts to act up it will get to that certain rpm (???) and it will act like it just quit gettin fire or fuel all together. Almost like its choking or something. When it starts acting up all you have to do is pull it up in neutral and kill the engine and restart it again and it goes fine. It has no low end power at all though. It will barely spin out on a dirt road. I have run several bottles of fuel treatment through it (not at the same time) and it helped a little but still had same problems.

you probably got some trash in your tank or got a filter full of junk again. try putting one of those clear filters in the line and when it happens again, look to see if there is any gas in the filter. that will tell you if it is not picking up anything

Sounds just like the temperature sensor gone bad to me. Is ther any black smoke when you restart it? Do you have to give it some fuel to get it to start?
