Need help with hesitation with my 2000 Chevy Silverado

It doesn't happen every time but when shifted in to gear, it drops RPMs and it has to be shifted in to neutral or park to avoid dying.

Engine is a 5.3L, has a K&N cold air filter, has a throttle body spacer, it has new spark plugs and performance spark plug wires.

It has always done it, even before adding the preformance stuff.

check your fuel delivery and for vacum leaks around TBI. either sucking in to much air or not enough fuel.

Do you have a throttle cable or do you have what we call drive by wire (no cable)?

You want to make sure there is no air leaks between you mass air flow sensor and the throttle body. Any unregistered air that gets after the MAS can create driveablity problems. My first guess is you have carbon build up in the throttle body. Clean all the carbon away from the throttle plate and idle air control motor. In my area we see a lot of the GM trucks with tip in hessitations caused by carbon in the throttle body.

Hey Bart thanks for the great advice!!! You were right on. I took off my throttle body, cleaned all the carbon out and there was a ton of it, and also found 2 small air leaks in the air intake. Resealed them and have not had any hesitation.

Thanks again!!!!
