Security Question

I have a 1997 C3500. I was wondering if anyone knows if they were manufactured with "security" ignitions (PATS or something like that). The guy that sold me the truck told me that there was a chip in the key, but the dealer is saying that trucks did not have chipped keys. Any idea what really happened in 1997?

if there was a chip you would would see on the key plain as day.
