Need help with a Chevy Hello all. I am new here. I am posting in general, even though it is a Chevy, so I can get as many ideas as possible. Last summer, we bought a 1995 Chevy Blazer, 4X4, 2 dr. Almost immediately, the tranny went. It sat a few months, and then the tranny was rebuilt. About 3 months ago, my husband was driving it home from work, and he used the cruise control, and it started stalling out. We replaced the fuel filter and pump. It ran fine for about a month. It then started started stalling again. We had it hooked to a computer, to get the codes for what may need fixed. We replaced the plugs, wires, distrbuter and fuel pump, again. He drove it to work yesterday and it was fine in the morning. In the afternoon, it stalled about 3 or 4 times. Does anyone have any ideas?? This truck is bringing out the worst in us.

Ohiogal: What codes if any came up? Ignition related items can sometimes be difficult to troubleshoot. I am assuming this a 4.3L V6? Why the need to replace the fuel pump again? Is there contamination in the tank that went by the "sock" and is tearing up pumps? Have you considered the regulator? If it starts to go, it may give you similar symptoms that would indicate a bad pump. How many miles? How about the cat(s)? Are they(it) getting really hot ? Might have a restriction.

75K30, thanks for the reply. I will have to get the paper that has the codes on it. I will have that info tomorrow (no internet at home). We replaced it again, because that was one of the codes that had shown up that 'could have' been a possibility. I will print off the rest off your questions, and take them home to my husband tonight. I will have answers for you tomorrow. I really appreciate your input!

I will check back for those results. I am leaning towards fuel delivery, I do not believe the ECM can specify fuel pump. It only knows that the delivery has a problem, may be the pressure regulator. Easy fix if that is it.

Okay, here is exactly what the printout says: Five Codes found: P0131, P0137, P0171, P0303 and P0338. The tech checked the fuel pressure is spec'd at 60-65 PSI, at start up it read 58 PSI, and running it read 48 PSI. Probable fuel pump is bad. Fuel filter may be clogged. That is why we replaced the fuel filter again. We thought the one we just installed may have been defective.

Ohiogal: I might be missing something here, but these code indicate low voltage(s) banks 1, and system too lean, cyl # 3 misfire, and crank position sensor a (high input), respectively. Who helped you decifer these codes? Would you post the codes, as well as their descriptions for comparisson please. We will go back to the fuel system in a little while. I have a question or two about that as well.

One step foward, and two steps back. Lets look at what we know. The filter was changed would lead me to believe that the system has been comprimised by either, the first pump failure, (small electrical particals entering system from failing parts). Now why is the system failing again? We need to consider junk in the tank. I do not recall if the tank in the 95 is steel or plastic. If it is steel, and the vehicle sat for an extended period of time, you may have developed rust in the tank. This would be a very good explaination for the chewed up pumps, as well as clogged filters.

The tank is metal. He took the first pump back to the store, and they hooked it to a pressure guage, and told him it was not putting out enough pressure, so they replaced it, and that is the second one that is currently on the vehicle.
