| Engine pulling question? I am getting ready to pull the 350 out of my 85 silverado K10. There is a problem. The truck has 7 inches of lift and 35 inch tires. I know a cherry picker won't clear this and i can't get ahold of a A-frame. I thought of two options. Either tear the whole front clip off, or drop the tires and rest the axle on short jackstands. Do you think the oil pan will clear the front clip if i drop the tires and put the axle on jackstands, or will i have to pull off the front clip, radiator, grill, etc.... ? |

| i would have taken the air out of the tires to start with. aint no way id stand on a ladder or on my toes to work on that. drop it down and just watch the oil pan to make sure that it will not hit the ground. if it wont, go find a tree and a chain hoist and drive it over there. pulling that front clip off is not what i would call fun or a 1 hour chore by far. someone else here might think so, but not me. |

| I don't want to pull the front clip. i figure if i take off the tires, and rest the axle on jack stands (on the lowest possible setting) that will give me enough room to lift the motor with a standard engine hoist. I figure it should lower the front end about 9 inches or so? |

| my brother and i have pulled plenty of motors out of his trucks and all his trucks had a six inch lift or taller. we usually took the tires off and threw them under the ends of each axle, alot safer than using the jackstands. as long as you don't try to pull the tranny with the motor you can max out the length on the arm and you should have plenty of clearance.

| The front clip is pretty easy to get off on these. Would make the whole endeavor real simjple and easy. Make accessing everything a breeze. If you dont remove the clip, the just get it as low as possible.

| Agree with all above. The radiator is too expensive to leave in place, remove it, only takes a minute since the upper and lower hoses are disconnected anyway. If there is a buddy or two around to help I like to take the front clip off to clear things out. Yeah it takes a few minutes or so but it always clears so much and I don't have to climb a ladder or tippy chair to work on things. And be safe, jack stand the axle or frame or both, I like to put them behind the axle back on the frame where it straightens out, this gets them out of the way of the motor hoist and also you don't kick them when you are working. Good luck |
