Chevy Cranking Issues

I've got an old 88 with a 350. When it's warm it does not like to crank. I just put a new starter in and the problem was solved for a couple of hours but it has reoccured. Can anyone lend an informational hand towards my problem? It would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Thanks for the help guys! I've ruled out that the motor requires a heavier CA as a possibility. I have replaced all the wiring to and from the starter. But like every 350 and 305 I've seen the starter is quite close to the exhaust manifold.

Thanks for all the help guys... The truck is running great with no complaints again!

Do you have headers? Does it happen only when the motor is hot, or all the time? Is the exhaust close to the starter? Check all your wire connections and remove and clean them and reinstall them. A bad connection is suspect, but could be heat killing the starter

Put a voltmeter on the postive cable, red on battery + ,black on starter+ crank engine and take reading. Should be .8v or less. Now do the same thing on the negative side black on battery - red on starter ground. Crank engine take reading should be .5v or less. If you are getting a couple of volts or more that cable, connection, etc is bad fix and replace. This is called voltage drop testing. The beauty of it is that you do not have to take anything apart and it tells you where the problem is. Battery cables and connections can look good but be no good. Measureing the voltage drop will tell you where the problem is.

it sounds like you need to clean all of the conatins and replace your battery cables.

Does the negative on the battery go to the motor or the frame? Is there a ground cable from motor to frame? Is the timing correct and not advanced?
