Silverado Speedometer gone crazy! I hope someone here may be able to help me. I have a 2003 Silverado, W/T. Last Friday, the speedometer, was at both 30 and 60 mph and a complete stop. So, while on the highway, driving, it was registering over 100 mph. I did not drive it over the weekend, and by Sunday, the needle had dropped back to zero, and it appeared to be working when on the road. Tuesday, I got on the freeway,a nd the needle stuck at 68, the entire trip to work. On the way home, it was based around 50 mph, and I could not register my speed, because the needle would go past the allotted numbers. We bought a Chilton's. There is nothing in there. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you very much!

It isn’t the speedometer in the dash it is the speed control box behind the dash. Last time this happened on a 1994 chevy wt it was a bad power wire into the speedometer control box. Check you fuses for starters or look for loose or damaged wiring on the fire wall. Otherwise take it to a transmission shop and have them look at it. It could also be the speed sensor in the transmission tail shaft as well. Watch out because your transmission my start shifting really funny or not at all and hold second gear.

Its the instrument cluster. It just needs to be removed and sent off for repairs we do them at the dealer all the time. I'm not sure if it is something you can bring in to your dealer to have done since most of them have to be reprogrammed after you put them back in the truck. So I would say it has to go to the dealer for the repair and to be reprogrammed.

Well, we replaced the speed sensor that is back by the tranny. Still nothing. So my husband wants to look in the instrument cluster next.
