Exhaust recommendations? Hi everyone, Could I get recommendations on replacing the stock exhaust system on a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 4.8L. You guys have suggested Flowmaster a lot but now would a single outlet be Ok or should I go ahead and have a dual outlet installed. $120 for the replacement of the stock muffler or $350 for the dual outlet with all stainless pipes and chrome tips? I want a nice throaty sound but not too loud. OK I can't weld and do this kind of stuff but will this upgrade improve performance and mileage? Any other options that you would suggest besides this. Thanks, Greg Last edited by rhino57; 09-11-2006 at 09:15 PM.

I tend to go for standard parts although I do not mind what others may do. I will put non standard parts on if it is a real improvement and it does not prevent standard parts being replaced in the future.

A single outlet Flowmaster will give you that throaty sound, there are several Flowmaster series to choose from. You don't have to go to dual outlets unless you want. Stainless and chrome will pretty much last as long as you own the truck. A good muffler shop can do this and still be able to go back stock if you want. Other options: K&N Air filter or a low restriction air filter.

Larry, Thanks for the response. Will going to a dual exhaust have any benefits and what might they be? Throaty sound and better gas mileage, increased throttle response, maybe? Thanks again, Greg

you will see a noticeable increase in fuel mileage if you put a performance air filter in with the exhaust (airaid, K&N etc.). the exhaust alone wont do as much. you are letting more exhaust out so you can stuff more air in for better mileage. flowmasters sound great on those trucks you made a wise choise. their super 40 muffler is probably the best iv heard.

"True duals" start at the motor and go to the bumper, you can't do that unless you want to lose your warranty and $$$ for the work/parts. Most just put on a Y pipe or a dual outlet muffler and have 2 tailpipes, "Look of duals but not really duals". As most have said, the air filter and exhaust together will make a difference, but it takes both to see the most difference.

| Ther are alot of chaeter dual kits out there that dont void the warranty and will help performance and sound. I would go that route and save alot of $ and have a great sounding truck. Definately go with a replutable syatem though borla, flowmaster etc.

i recommend dualing your truck of. i did so with my truck and am quite impressed with its performance so far. One thing to look into though is if you are buying what i call a "true dual" where each of your pipes come directly off your headers instead of just a split in the piping right before the gas tank and dualing it off.

i have heard alot about duals with crossovers. ive heard some people say that they function better than true duals becuase it keeps equal pressure from the exhaust valves. i have no idea but is pain in the butt on the truck at the house. dont know if it makes that big of differance but i have heard that it helps. maybe someone can comment on that.
