88 Cheyenne Needs Transmission Hello Forum Folks. Just picked up this 88 Cheyenne K1500 4X4 with a V8 5.7 Liter engine. It can't go faster than 25 miles an hour. Need to replace the transmission. Where can I find a reliable source for rebuilt transmissions? Doesn't matter which state, I'll ship.

When you say it wont go faster then 25 mph, is just not shifting out of first gear. does it slip. What exactlly it is doing. What city and state are you in, I have hookups around the US and I should be able to find the best deal, also are you pulling the trans and putting it back in or you having some else do this.

Hey, When you hit about 20-25 the truck simply won't go any faster if you're pressing the gas. It does this every single time. You've got to wait for it drop back to about 10 or 15 miles a hour before you actually apply gas and have the vehicle increase speed. I'm actually in The Bahamas but I can have the tranny shipped to Florida and put it on a boat from there. Yeah, I'm having someone else do this. I don't think I have the confidence to do it myself. I mean, I haven't done anything that major on a car or truck before. Your regular tune up is as far as I've gone.

Did you have some one look at it, because I have never seen a transmission just stop at 25 mph. From what you stated a clogged catalytic converter would be the most likely failure. When you have the truck in park can you rev up the engine to the high rpm range about 5000rpms with out the engine boggin or straining. I have no problem finding a transmission for you. I Just don't want you to spend money that you dont need to.

i have had two people look at it. how closely they looked i don't know. i can rev with no problem. it also leaks transmission by the way. one mechanic said the transmission wasn't even bolted down properly. someone bought it for me and put it on the boat. i didn't see the truck till it got here in Nassau
