1989 silveraldo wont move

I ahve a 1989 silverado and when you put it in gear it acts like the brakes wont release. Th e back wheels will spin in reverse or forward. I have no clue why it wont move?

lets start with the obvious, is the e-bake set. if your good to go in the rear then jack the front up and see if you can spin the tires freely. when was the last time it was on the road?

sounds like front brakes are locked up. either that or you have a wheel bearing that has froze up on the races. doubtful so i would check the front brakes.

The truck has been sittin for a long time, but yesterday I jacked the front wheels up and spun each side and seemed to be free. Took the truck down the road and back then parked it for a couple of hours and tried to back out of drive and it would not move again??????

I bet you more than likey have tranny problems. Have you checked the fluid to see if it is full/low etc. If it has been sitting for too long it'll more than likely need a rebuild.

These trucks were prone to front brake hose failures. They collapse and hold pressure after the brakes are applied. Next time it wont move jack up the front immediately and see if the front tires spin or not. That will point this in the right direction. I suspect brake hose failure.

i have heard of those failures you are talking about. what happens when you let the caliper hang there pulls the lining out of the hose end on the inside of the line where it will clog the line one way and open it the other. that happened to my brotherinlaws truck a couple of months ago. new brake hose fixed it right up
