Question Ceramic Resistors in Ignition System?

Does anyone know if a 1993 Chevy Pickup (350 V8 5-speed manual trans) has a ceramic resistor in the ignition system?

I replaced the ignition coil the other day after determining that the problem was not the fuel pump and likely not the electronic ignition module. The old coil did show signs of burn and it was very hot after letting the engine run until it quit after 20 minutes. Cooling a while, it would start again; otherwise, the starter does its thing but there is no complete start.

It quit on me again after driving for 20 minutes; the tech cannot find anything and actually let it run for FOUR HOURS and it did not quit. But I have a camping trip this weekend, towing my pop-up camper for about four hours and really would like to avoid the worry about if it will be shutting down.

A friend suggested there may be a ceramic resistor in the ignition system; his car had had this cutting-out thing and after he went through pretty much what I am at present, he learned that all he had to do was replace the resistor every 6,000 miles or so. It was not my model or year, but it seems interesting that the symptoms are the same.

Thanks.

if it ran fine for a good while without a hiccup, i doubt it is that ballast resistor. otherwise that thing would knock around and drive like ****. i have had one completely go out and could never get it to start no matter what i done.

I dont think they have one. But your problem sounds liek a temp sensor to me. If they send a bad signal the computer thinks the motor is cold and sets the fuel injection to a real rich condition. They are real cheap. Are you getting any check engine codes?
