| y wont my truck start right away? Ok, so i drive a 2001 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 and its always been a reliable truck up until now. When i try to start it up it will just turn over but not fire. But i did figure out that if i turn the ignition to "ON" and open my door there is a whinning noise coming from where the fuel tank is. Now if i wait about 5 seconds for the whinning to stop she will fire right up. Is there something wrong with my fuel pump or filter? Im totally confused cause the truck still runs great when its running. Any help is apreciated. |

| seems to be a tale tale sign the pump is going out. My brothers 96 chevy did the same thing once. Wouldnt start right away, but would after a few seconds. About a week later fuel pump completely died. Might not be your case though, just a thought.

| I would replace your fuel filter before doing anything else.See if this helps your problem. If the problem exists after this,I would consult a work manual for this vehicles specifications, and perform a fuel pressure test.If not satisfactory,or other problems are not pin pointed, replace the fuel pump and pump filter. 92gmc4x4 |

| Before replaceing the fuel filter or the fuel pump. Open the hood on the drivers side of the engine on the fuel rail is the fuel pressure regulator, there is a vacuum line connected to it. remove the vacuum line if it is wet or smells like fuel the fuel pressure regulator is bad. Also turn the key to the on position. This is very common on the 5.3l engines |

| There we go. Check the pressure regulator first, then remove the filter. Check for clogging. Doubt it since it doesnt starve normally, But I would check the regulator first.

| Yeah, I'm having that problem too. The truck is hard to start, it takes two turns to fire. Its an 01 Chevy with a 5.3 liter. I've replaced the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator myself. It still does it. Its going in on Monday for a fuel pressure test. You guys have any other advise? |
